6 Tips for a Healthy Scalp (& Healthier Hair)
Your scalp is an extension of your skin; so it only makes sense that we need to take care of our scalp, just like the rest of our skin. Healthy scalp is the first step towards healthier-looking hair. Not taking preventative steps to maintain our scalp can lead to dandruff, excessive oil, hair loss, or even acne. Here are a few easy tips to keep the scalp healthy and – all it takes is a few minutes out of my regular haircare routine.
1. Washing hair regularly
By regularly, means NOT everyday.. DON’T overdo it! Most experts recommend keeping it to two or three times a week; this keeps the scalp from becoming too oily but also doesn’t dry it out (which can happen with excessive shampoo and styling products). Washing it every day will prevent the hair’s natural oils from forming and prevent an itchy scalp, which are essential for keeping the scalp and hair healthy looking.
2. Exfoliate
Exfoliating is incredibly important for keeping a healthy scalp. I exfoliate my scalp once a week. It helps clear away dry dead skin and keeps the hair follicles clean and clears any buildup.
3. Hair Massage
Scalp massage is super beneficial because it helps increase blood circulation to the scalp, and even relaxes muscles. Scalp massage also promotes hair growth and luster. BeautyBio came out with this wonderful hair tool and serum combo just in time for the Holidays. I use this microneedling hair tool 2-3 a week and massage the scalp target areas, then apply the serum with the fingertips using a firm pressure in a circular motion.
4. Use tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is a miracle worker. I started using it when I noticed acne around my hairline a couple years ago. I apply a drop or two on my scalp every time I shampoo my hair. Its antimicrobial properties are great for attacking dandruff too! – I am so surprised by the results!
5. Hair Vitamins
I believe In treating inside and out. We may try a bunch of products topically, however, having a healthy lifestyle and nutritional supplements can surely boost the results. I have a few favorites – I have been taking these hair gummies for past 2-3 years & it helps improves my hair texture. Also taking these supplements for about 3 months now, and my hair has grown longer and looks voluminous.
6. Use SILK
Yess.. Last, but not the least- I can’t stress enough. Silk pillowcase and Hir accessories make a huge difference. Helps reduce, breakage, hair fall and split ends.
